South Park Public Shoreline Access Site
To create ceramic artwork for 8th Avenue Duwamish River access site in the South Park neighborhood of Seattle, I led two workshops giving young people an opportunity to learn how to work in clay and to add their touch to a permanent art installation. One workshop was for small children at the South Park Neighborhood Center and another for youth at Aviation High School.
I fired and glazed their creations, created four larger hand-carved tiles, and designed the tile pattern for the project. The Port of Seattle did the install in 2008. The children could find their own handiwork by exploring the completed installation.
This park is located at the corner of 8th Avenue South and South Portland Street.
