“Wild Ones”

“Wild Ones”

Brightly colored, stylized depictions of some of Colorado wildlife highlight the front and back of this stela sculpture. Housed in steel, the ceramic relief carvings feature the faces and forms of mountain lion, squirrel, swallowtail butterfly, bighorn sheep, American bullfrog, ladybug, coyote, mountain goat, short horned lizard, rabbit, moose, and prairie dog. At the top of the piece, the phrases “Wild ones” and “Love all” are written in Cuneiform, reminding us that even humankind’s most ancient written language is recent compared to the age of these wonderful creatures, many of whom need our love and care to survive into the future.

This piece is currently on public display for a year in Longmont, Colorado in St Stephen’s Plaza on Main Street, as part of the city’s Art On the Move 2021-22 program.
